First, I want to thank you for your compassion, awareness, and understanding of what this petition stands for and what it means -- the importance of this not only for Ukraine but for the entire world.
Ending the US-RU sister city relationships is more than a symbol of solidarity; this is a tangible action to align the world with freedom, peace, and democracy.
Second, I want to answer the question, "If the war ends soon, would the US-RU sister city relationships be restored soon? If so, why keep this petition going?"
Answer: Because we are calling for an end to US-RU sister city relationships until the end of hostilities against Ukraine, peace and freedom are fully restored, cities rebuilt, and each person of the Russian Federation is held accountable for their crimes. The timeline is substantial.
Third, if we take no further action, we have become complacent. What we permit, we promote. So let's not let ourselves be complacent!
For us to reach our ultimate goal and for this petition to be effective, we need many more signatures.
