The ancient Hyrcanian forests of northern Iran — a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the most irreplaceable ecological treasures on Earth — have been burning relentlessly for more than twenty days. This 50-million-year-old ecosystem, renowned for its exceptional biodiversity and dense mosaic of flora and fauna, is now facing a catastrophic environmental emergency that threatens irreversible destruction.

Stretching from southeastern Azerbaijan to northern Iran and spanning approximately 55,000 square kilometers, the Hyrcanian forests form one of the last surviving remnants of the ancient broadleaf forests that once covered much of the Northern Hemisphere. They are home to more than 180 bird species and 58 mammal species — including critically endangered species such as the Persian Leopard and the Caspian Red Deer. With each passing day of uncontrolled wildfire, these habitats shrink further, pushing countless species toward the brink of extinction.

Firefighting efforts on the ground remain severely hindered by insufficient resources, limited equipment, and the absence of effective international support. Local responders and environmental defenders are battling a crisis far beyond their capacity. Given the scale of the devastation and the global ecological significance of these forests, immediate and coordinated international intervention is essential.

This petition is a call to action directed at the United Nations, global environmental organizations, and governments worldwide. We urge them to:

Provide emergency funding and logistical support;
Deploy specialized wildfire-response teams, equipment, and expert personnel;
Assist in large-scale fire suppression and containment operations;
Support post-fire ecological assessment, habitat restoration, and long-term preservation strategies.
The survival of the Hyrcanian forests is not solely a national concern for Iran — it is a global responsibility. These forests play a vital role in preserving biodiversity, regulating regional climate, and maintaining ecological stability across an entire biome. جنگل‌های کهن هیرکانی در شمال ایران — که در فهرست میراث جهانی یونسکو ثبت شده و از ارزشمندترین گنجینه‌های طبیعی سیاره زمین به شمار می‌روند — بیش از بیست روز است که بی‌وقفه در آتش می‌سوزند. این اکوسیستم ۵۰ میلیون ساله که به دلیل تنوع زیستی بی‌همتا و ترکیب غنی گونه‌های گیاهی و جانوری شهرت جهانی دارد، اکنون با بحرانی روبه‌روست که می‌تواند به نابودی غیرقابل بازگشت آن منجر شود.

جنگل‌های هیرکانی که از جنوب‌شرقی جمهوری آذربایجان تا شمال ایران امتداد دارند و وسعتی حدود ۵۵ هزار کیلومتر مربع را در بر می‌گیرند، یکی از آخرین بازمانده‌های جنگل‌های پهن‌برگ باستانی در نیم‌کره شمالی هستند. این جنگل‌ها زیستگاه بیش از ۱۸۰ گونه پرنده و ۵۸ گونه پستاندار — از جمله یوزپلنگ ایرانی و گوزن زرّین دریای خزر که در معرض خطر انقراض هستند — می‌باشند. هر روز ادامهٔ این آتش‌سوزی‌های مهارنشده، این زیستگاه‌ها را کوچک‌تر و شکننده‌تر می‌کند و گونه‌های بی‌شماری را به مرز نابودی نزدیک‌تر می‌سازد.

تلاش‌های موجود برای مقابله با آتش به شدت به دلیل کمبود منابع، نبود تجهیزات پیشرفته و فقدان حمایت بین‌المللی با محدودیت روبه‌روست. نیروهای محلی و فعالان محیط زیست در برابر بحرانی قرار گرفته‌اند که بسیار فراتر از توان و امکانات موجود آنان است. با توجه به گستردگی خسارت و اهمیت جهانی این اکوسیستم، مداخله فوری و هماهنگ جامعه جهانی امری کاملاً ضروری است.

این پتییشن خطاب به سازمان ملل متحد، نهادهای بین‌المللی محیط زیست و دولت‌های جهان نوشته شده و از آنان درخواست می‌کند:

تأمین بودجه اضطراری، تجهیزات تخصصی و پشتیبانی لجستیکی؛
اعزام تیم‌های تخصصی اطفای حریق جنگلی، کارشناسان مدیریت بحران و نیروهای متخصص؛
مشارکت در عملیات مهار و کنترل آتش در مقیاس گسترده؛
انجام ارزیابی مستقل از خسارت‌های زیست‌محیطی و آغاز برنامه‌های احیای اکولوژیک؛
طراحی و حمایت از راهبردهای بلندمدت برای حفاظت و پایش این زیست‌بوم ارزشمند.
نجات جنگل‌های هیرکانی تنها یک دغدغه ملی برای ایران نیست — بلکه مسئولیتی جهانی است. این جنگل‌ها نقشی حیاتی در حفظ تنوع زیستی، تنظیم اقلیم منطقه‌ای و پایداری اکولوژیکی ایفا می‌کنند. نابودی آن‌ها، خسارتی جبران‌ناپذیر برای بشریت و نسل‌های آینده خواهد بود.
