There are currently 61 confirmed Orcas held in captivity around the world. 28 captured from the wild and 33 born in captivity. These are held in 15 parks in 9 different countries. The first Orca captured from the wild and to be held in captivity for public display was in 1961. Since then a confirmed 156 have been taken from the wild for public display of which 128 of those are confirmed dead. 19 confirmed Russian Orcas have been taken from the Sea of Okhotsk since 2002. At least 165 orcas have died in captivity. Not including 30 miscarried and still born calves. This does not include the uncounted numbers of orca killed during the capture process. Three times the number of orcas living in captivity today have died in captivity. The most important thing we've learned about Orcas living in captivity is that it deprives them of all of their natural instincts and behaviours. They also develop huge mental and health problems. Captive research is obsolete it does not show natural behaviour so how can any research recorded be accurate? Research in wild, natural habitats studying natural life structures of wild orcas is what we need to understand more of.
