Announcing a National Conversation for Black Canadians | UNDPAD and What Happens Next?

BEBC SOCIETYVancouver, Canada
Sep 15, 2023

Hi Fellow Canadians,

In the past 2 months, you and many of our members have been mobilizing and activating by contacting our government and especially ESDC through letters, calls, and a petition for Urgent Action In Support of Permanent Legislative Policy for Black Canadians. Even though the ministers have admitted to receiving 100s of these letters and emails, they have not yet officially responded to our request for a meeting or answers. Would that be the case if it was a different equity seeking group other than Black Canadians?

To continue to asking for answers, we are partnering with Black leaders around the country, to convene a national conversation of Black Canadians in a series of meetings starting tomorrow, every Saturday for the next few weeks/months, to educate and bring awareness on the following priorities:

  1. UNDPAD | What is the status of initiatives the government committed to?
  2. With all the temporary programs enacted in 2021 expiring next year, what happens next? SBCCI, BEKH and more, will they or some of them be made permanent?
  3. Will there be a Permanent Legislative Policy for Black Canadians in response to UNDPAD?
  4. Will the government invest, in some capacity in educating the community on how govt actually works - basic education is required on how the machine works i.e having a door way vs window vs non at all in the government and how it all works so that our community can engage more in our democracy and government?

By way of this email, we invite you to attend some/all of the meetings to hear from all of us and understand the priorities of the Black community.

It is OUR time to speak up, take initiative and be heard so join us to make a change and make a difference at our upcoming UNDPAD meetings! Register here today, to save a spot for you, your family and friends and attend 1 or all of the meetings.

You have already signed our petition, THANK YOU!

Help us continue to spread the word by inviting your community to sign the petition, send the ESDC (Employment and Social Development Canada) letters, and learn more about this movement here!

We look forward to seeing you Saturday!

Your sincerely,

The Black Community
