I'm overwhelmed with the support for this petition. And proud of us parents , educators and allied who are standing up. Because change is hard.
Flying the disability pride flag today for children with SEND and all children not in school, because you're not fine there.
You're unable to attend, awaiting a school place, going through EHCP, waiting for a tribunal decision, or electively home educating or otherwise. And.
You are not missing.
You are not ghosts.
We acknowledge you.
This flag was designed by Ann Magill, a disabled artist, who waived copyright to it so that it could be used freely and changed.
A gift.
In fact Ann herself changed it as a result of feedback. The original design had zig-zag stripes. It caused some people problems when they viewed it.
Ann Magill changed it. Adapted it. Made it safe.
Because that's what you do. That's what can be done. That's what we must all do.
Sunday nights can be hard if you're not fine in school. If you're struggling, or your child is, or you're scared. Feeling alone. Raising this flag for you, as a disabled person. advocate, or ally.
We acknowledge you.
I post this understanding that this flag covers all disabilities, visible and hidden. If this post is problematic - talk to me. I'll listen. I'll learn.
Because that's what we must do.
