BREAKING NEWS: I just got off the phone with Christopher Phelps, Director of Transit Operations. Here's some of the news that I wanted to share with you and some questions that I'd like to get some feedback on. First off, Mr. Phelps vehemently disagrees with stopping at Fouts and it will almost certainly be changed. :) However, the university doesn't want the buses to go inside the campus. Their eventual goal is to convert Avenue C and Highland into pedestrian-only roads. Since most riders like to get on at the GAB, routing the bus along Hickory (and stopping near the GAB) to Welch and then south to the Union would be beneficial because of its distance to classes. Now for the exciting news. Mr. Phelps said there is a 95% chance that the bus will be routed to the Union, as soon as the first day of classes (August 28). I told him that it would be great to add stops at North Texas Blvd, Ave C, Ave B, and Fry St along Hickory and he agreed. Remember, Ave B and Hickory is right next to the old GAB stop. There is also construction happening on Hickory this academic year (Fall 2017–Summer 2018) and I proposed that if the bus isn't able to travel on Hickory, it could use the old route for that period of time. He said he would be able to try something like that temporarily, no guarantees, but it could be doable with perhaps a few modifications. He seemed to be very flexible with the routes being changed at any time during the school year. Please let me know at JeffreyWang@my.unt.edu if you disagree with this compromise and I'll be sure to pass your thoughts onto Mr. Phelps. If you'd like to contact him directly, his email is Christopher.Phelps@unt.edu and his phone is (940) 565-3016. On top of modifying the route, Mr. Phelps is also interested in adding a night rider route and weekend service. Currently the night rider would probably go until 11pm and the weekend service goes from 8am till 6pm, but he would like some more feedback about when this service should run. Please either email me or him with the above contact information if you would like to pass on times that work better for you. Overall, Mr. Phelps has been very open and responsive to our needs and demands and I am glad he has been working with us. However, we might not be able to see the bus return to the exact original route, but hopefully we will be able to get a better route. Thank you all!
