Hi everyone, here's the latest update.

Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla sent an email to the Class of 2020 earlier today stating that due to COVID, they are planning an "in-person Class of 2020 Graduation Celebration" instead of an official "Commencement Ceremony" this OCTOBER. A couple points are to be made here.

1. For one, this has nothing to do with COVID safety procedures. San Diego State University, University of San Diego, Cal State Long Beach, Cal State Los Angeles, and USC are all holding their commencement ceremonies for both the Class of 2020 and Class of 2021. They are just holding them one weekend apart to ensure that COVID safety guidelines are met. All of these schools (except USD) have the same number of students as UCSD, which begs the question, why would UCSD use COVID as a scapegoat here when it's clearly irrelevant?

2. Secondly, Khosla wrote "Graduation Celebration" and not "Commencement Ceremony" for a reason. A graduation celebration does NOT mean an official commencement, it could even mean an informal banquet...

3. Which brings me to point #3, this "Graduation Celebration" is to be held in October. Why in October, when that's so far away? Because the UCSD Alumni Homecoming Weekend is scheduled for every October, and we believe that the UCSD administration is just trying to throw our celebration into the mix of that general alumni event.

That being said, I, along with many other Class of 2020 students, will continue to keep petitioning and protesting until we get an OFFICIAL, Class of 2020 Commencement Ceremony, like we were promised previously by the administration.

Thank you so much for reading, and thank you for supporting our Class!
