Hello Petitioners,
Thank you all for coming together this weekend and signing this petition to let UB know they cannot ignore us while they profit. We, students, deserve a say in what happens to us. I know it's difficult to have faith that the University will change anything at this point... However, our silence and isolation can no longer stand as is. We need to express our outrage at the passiveness the University has displayed towards our collective mental health, and signing this petition is the safest and most efficient way of doing so. As we approach 1,000 supporters in the coming days, we will be contacting administration members of the University. Ideally, this can open up a dialogue where they actually listen to their student body and take action to alleviate the conditions THEY brought on us. We must ask them why are mental health breaks taken seriously at other SUNY campuses, but not at UB?
To everyone who signed this petition, we thank you. We thank those who have had the courage to share this petition across social media and made this cause go viral the way it did. We do ask if you can share it once again: Our goal is that each of the 30,000 students enrolled at this school will know this petition. So if you have a large class or extracurricular activity group chat please share this petition there! Check-in with your friends and ask them if they have signed. Again, we have nothing to lose by signing this.
Another note: We have been reading each of the comments on this petition. Many have been riveting in how they voice the unneeded stress we have incurred from a lack of built-in mental health days. We encourage all of you to check in on each other this semester more than ever. We need each other's support if we are to get through this. Remember, we are on the other side of the hill of this semester and (I would hope) the pandemic. We can get through this together.
So please help this petition spread until each member of the University has seen it! LET'S GET TO 1,000 SUPPORTERS- Thank you!
