Petition updateUnfair Student Loans Are Crippling Students – It’s Time for Reform

Closing the petition if nothing changes. But thank you to everyone who did show supoprt.

Sadly, unless there is a significant increase in support, signatures and shares, I have decided that I will close this petition at the end of the month.

I’m genuinely surprised that this issue hasn’t gained more support. The way maintenance loans are calculated is already affecting many young people and families, and will affect many more in the future. Students are being assessed on the income of parents and step-parents who may be unable or unwilling to fund them, while the reality of modern families, multiple children at university and actual household outgoings is largely ignored.

At the other end of the system, graduates face decades of repayments, with many lower and middle earners paying for much of their working lives.

I still believe the student finance system needs reviewing from beginning to end. But a petition can only make a difference if people are willing to sign it, share it and help it reach a wider audience.

So, this is my final push. If you agree that the system needs to change, please sign and share the petition before the end of the month. Even if this issue doesn’t affect you personally today, it may affect your children, grandchildren, friends or colleagues in the future.

A huge thank you to everyone who has signed, shared, contacted MPs or supported me in trying to raise awareness. I genuinely appreciate every one of you. ❤️

If there is no significant change in support by the end of the month, I will close the petition.
