Not forgotten

As I haven't posted an update in some time, I wanted to reassure everyone who has signed the petition that the campaign is ongoing, albeit with little tangible progress at this point. As you might imagine, current Brexit chaos is taking up much of the parliamentary and constituency time of MPs, meaning that other issues are being sidelined. But until this loophole is plugged, the threat to our heritage remains. Historic England have assured me that they are working behind the scenes to prepare recommendations for the DCMS. The most helpful thing that we can do at this point is to keep the pressure on both HE and the DCMS to push this through. Please contact HE directly to show your continued concern. I will also be exploring the possibility of other, more direct ways to bring pressure to bear. But nothing will happen unless there is a clear public demand for change, so please, please continue to share and promote the petition, write to your MP, write to the DCMS, and write to HE. Without this pressure, the whole issue will be quietly shelved until the next time a historic building is trashed - and it really is only a matter of time before this happens.
