A Kent newspaper has just published an in depth article about the sad and unnecessary destruction of the Blue Boys Inn in Kent - an ongoing story that illustrates many of the problems with the current listing process, including the reluctance of councils to serve Building Preservation Notices, and the perception of many developers that listing will somehow prevent commercially viable use of the building. Automatic interim protection will not solve all of these issues, but it is a simple, common sense step to prevent some of the worst incidents of wanton vandalism such as this.
