Hi everyone,
Today, 8 June 2022, marks a decade since the Government first committed to the Istanbul Convention. And we marked the day by gathering in Parliament with 56 MPs and peers to call for the Government to ratify the convention without reservations.
A HUGE thank you to all of you who supported our event and invited your MP to attend. You helped us to make it a real success.
Earlier this month we heard how the Government plans to ratify the Convention, making it legally binding, but opt out of vital life saving support for migrant women.
Through today’s event and our campaigning in the lead up to 8th June, we’ve been calling on the Government to ratify the Convention and opt in to providing support for migrant women.
We’re incredibly grateful to the hosts of today’s event, Gavin Newlands MP, Jess Phillips MP and Wera Hobhouse MP, and to all 56 MPs and peers who attended. It was a reminder of the power we hold when we come together to call for a safer world for women.
We couldn’t continue to campaign without the support of the coalition, including the Women’s Institute, the End Violence Against Women Coalition (EVAW), Rape Crisis, Solace Women’s Aid, the Centre for Women’s Justice, Southall Black Sisters, Safety4Sisters, and the Latin American Womens Rights Service.
A huge thank you to everyone who has supported the campaign so far. We couldn't have done this without you.
Thank you so much
Lizzie, Kathryn, Robyn and the whole IC Change team
