Its another year , Thank you to all who have signed this petition . Please continue supporting this petition , Its a very important cause that needs to be fixed . The penalty that people with disabilities effects so many of us in ways its not fair . The penalty against disabled married couples needs to be eliminated for good . Its not fair that we can't be committed to someone legally without getting penalized . Some people get so confused when we talk about a marriage penalty against those who are disabled , We are allowed to get married , But the big problem we face is actually about a month after we say I do . If we both receive SSI , Social Security will look at all of the income we receive and see whether the two combined incomes goes over the allowed 3,000 for a married couple and 2,000 for single individuals . If the two incomes go over the allowed amount , that's when they look at it again see which of the two is the highest earner of the couple and divide the income for the two individuals . Social Security can decide whether they will cut you off totally or divide the income between the couple or not . Please consider signing or sharing this petition . Thank you .
