Alas, it's too late now, because on Fox & Friends this morning, speaking from the White House briefing room, our favorite writer of massacre fan fiction broke a federal law. So what you have there is a high-ranking member of the Trump regime literally endorsing a product and encouraging people to go buy it. Here's the direct quote: "[Ivanka's fashion line] is a wonderful line. I own some of it. I'm just going to give it a free commercial here: Go buy it today everybody. You can find it online." Seems innocent and fine, but it turns out there's apparently a federal ethics law that this violates. (Hat tip to Chris Lu on Twitter.) And this isn't some issue where we're talking about catching Kellyanne on some small technicality. There's literally a law designed to stop people in government from doing EXACTLY what she did. Here's the law (emphasis added) via a super untrustworthy source: Cornell Law School. § 2635.702 Use of public office for private gain. An employee shall not use his public office for his own private gain, for the endorsement of any product, service or enterprise, or for the private gain of friends, relatives, or persons with whom the employee is affiliated in a nongovernmental capacity, including nonprofit organizations of which the employee is an officer or member, and persons with whom the employee has or seeks employment or business relations. So one of Donald Trump's advisors (who is presumably on the administration's payroll!) just went on Fox News from the White House briefing room and appears to have broken a federal law. Had a member of the Obama administration done this, we'd be sitting through Congressional hearings for years. Instead, we have senators forbidden from quoting Coretta Scott King. It's almost like the truth and the law don't matter at all to the people who vilified Hillary Clinton for having a private email server and who now use a private email server.
