WCPSS Parents: This is SUPER important (and awesome)! If you are an allergy parent in WCPSS that is not satisfied with the accommodations that are provided to you for your child via a 504, you've had issues obtaining a 504 for a food allergic child or your child has had a reaction in WCPSS that could have been prevented with better policies -- reach out to Disability Rights North Carolina ASAP.

Here's the contact information:

This organization helped me a great deal with legal background guidance when Elias started kindergarten. I reached back out again, hoping that this would now possibly be under the umbrella of services they would help with as far as taking action and making change.

Turns out, where there are numbers, there may be power here. They may be able to help us out - saving us from hiring lawyers or just dealing with accommodations that are not meeting our child's needs. No promises. But they want to hear from ALL of you.

Include when you reach out:

  • Your name and contact information
  • Your child's name, grade level, school, if you have a 504 plan
  • At a high level your issues/concerns (lack of hand washing procedures after eating, allergens in classroom space with shared supplies, lack of cleaning of supplies and tables with anything beyond water, lack of training of substitutes for epi pen use, any accommodation your doctor/allergist recommends that is allowed by WCPSS policy)

Leave a comment on my ACE Advocacy FB page (https://www.facebook.com/ACEAdvocacy or send me an email (below), so that I know about how many are reaching out or if you have any questions.

Let's try to see if we can bring about change and keep ALL of our children as safe as reasonably possible!

(And again, no promises. But hearing from just two of us on the same issues in a week has their interest and they asked me to make this post. Fill their inbox!)

Thanks, y'all!
