Dear Supporters,
In case you haven't seen what the developers Resolution Properties and Bthe architects uckleyGrayYeoman propose for the Spiegelhalters site (which they have attempted to rebrand as "Dept W" in homage to the Wickhams department store), here's a link:
http://www.buckleygrayyeoman.com/project/dept-w/
And here's part of the supporting text:
"The proposals look to turn the now empty space of the holdout unit into the new, vibrant heart of the redevelopment as homage to the Spiegelhalter story. Sculptural shards will be introduced to create a bold, new public entrance on Mile End Road."
You can clearly see in several images the 'shards' (slabs of rusty oxidised steel called 'Cor-ten') in several of the images, forming the 'bold new public entrance' to the office complex. This is what we are fighting to prevent - the complete obliteration of the Spiegelhalter story.
Is a void really a form of homage? Is it hell. We say:
AVOID A VOID - SAVE SPIGELHALTERS!
Leafletting on Saturday 7th February outside 81 Mile End Road from midday
