Thousands From 112 Countries Around The World Protest Cruel Yukon Quest 1,000-Mile Sled Dog Race!
May 4, 2018 — I have sent an email to the premier of the Yukon requesting a meeting to discuss the growing world-wide opposition to the Yukon government’s continued funding and support for the cruel Yukon Quest 1,000-Mile sled dog race and the Yukon Government’s position on it. Several hundred comments from this petition clearly indicating a strong world-wide opposition to the government’s support for this barbaric event were also included.
Gratitude to all for your amazing support! Well-done the world is listening. Together we are opening the door to a much brighter future for sled dogs everywhere. We are now at 9,166 signatures - let’s shoot that number up to 10,000 and let the world know we continue to speak with many voices to oppose this inhumane event.
Also worthy of a mention is that there is a prior identical petition I originally posted on February 11 2018 on another platform at https://bit.ly/2BrtP70. I decided to switch to Change.org because it allows authors to post updates and signers to post comments.
You can further help to end the abuse of Northern sled dogs by sharing this petition online and also sharing this article at https://www.yukonpoetlaureate.com/long-distance-sled-dog-racing/ to help raise awareness of the horrific abuse of Northern sled dogs. I also invite you to join me on Twitter – I am @pjjohnsonYukon hashtag: #BanIditQuest. Supporters who are so-inclined may also make a donation to help to promote this petition.
Well it’s been a wild ride since I began this journey a little over a year ago but I’ve met many caring friends along the way who are passionate about protecting the animals with whom we share this planet and that's heartening. Thank you all for being there. Keep fighting the good fight – we will persevere!
In closing there remain a few unanswered questions: Will the premier reply? Will he ignore us? -Stay tuned for the next update! Still on the trail!
Until the last sled dog crosses the last finish line,
