We’re now 11 days into the campaign, and here’s where we stand:
Signatures Update:
We’ve reached 360 signatures so far, with the petition open for signatures until January 31, 2025. Even after that, the campaign page will remain active to collect additional support. As mentioned in the executive summary and open letter, those who sign the petition are invited—assuming Congress agrees with our request—to attend the hearings we’ve proposed. Of course, participation would depend on your own availability and at your own cost, but we want your voices in the room.
Outreach Efforts:
Presidential and Vice Presidential Letters: I won’t be sending physical copies to congressional offices (email reigns supreme), but I will mail hard copies to the President and Vice President. Thanks to a few connections, these letters will likely end up under the noses of staffers—no direct hand-off, but close enough. I’ll take all the help I can get beyond the mailbox slot!
Media Outreach: We’re compiling a growing list of media outlets, journalists, advocates, and bloggers to share the open letter with. It’s an extensive list, and we’re casting a wide net in hopes of finding a few champions to amplify our message. Like in high school, if the “cool kids” back us, the rest will follow. Let’s set this fire properly.
Next Steps:
I’ll be monitoring for return emails from staffers and elected officials throughout the week as we gear up for the release of the open letter on or around February 1, 2025. This is where the campaign shifts into high gear, and every bit of support matters.
What You Can Do Today:
