The Government is pressing ahead with proposed changes to the way we elect mayors and police and crime commissioners, first announced by Priti Patel back in March. In her statement, the Home Secretary insisted that using First Past the Post would lead to ‘strong and clear local accountability' for these elected representatives.

But Make Votes Matter sees this proposal for what it truly is: a backward step for democracy.

Which is why we're calling on the Minister of State for the Constitution and Devolution, at the beginning of this new session to Parliament, to look forward not backward and drop these proposals.

Will you sign the petition to Chloe Smith?

If made law, this would be a disaster for our democracy. We need to scrap First Past the Post, not impose it on more voters. If you agree, sign our petition today.

With hope and dedication,

Owen and the Make Votes Matter team
