It's been almost seven weeks since this petition was posted. Currently 10,850 have signed it and those numbers continue to rise. As you know the Wake County Sheriffs Office (WCSO) sought to permanently close the range to the public.  Our County Commissioners, to their credit, relieved the WCSO of control of the range.  That was a good thing! The range did close, albeit Temporarily.  That's a bad thing! With the closing and a promise by the commissioners to keep the range available for public use, all efforts shifted to finding and group, organization or agency that could take over management of the range.  I am pleased to report that our commissioners reached out to the NC Wildlife Resources Commission and are in negotiations to have an innovative County/State partnership put in place. Both the County Commissioners and the Wildlife Staff have been very receptive to the public organizers.  In a meeting I attended earlier this week with Wildlife staff, we were very pleased to have earnest conversations about the future of the range. I am very confident that this range will remain a publicly accessible facility for generations to come.  But we do not let down until that outcome is realized. We're not done until that's a done deal!  Therefore,  keep spreading the world about the range closing.  Let everyone know that for the time being the range is closed to the public. Encourage others to continue signing the petition and to be vocal about this issue until it is  resolved favorably.  We cannot be complacent about this issue. Our neighbors one state North have seen the detrimental effects of complacency at the poles. We must be vigilant to vote and to know exactly the views and aspirations of the politicians we vote for.
