Tyson exposed again! Take action TODAY and sign our new petition to urge Tyson to put an end to the rapid growth that cripples baby birds: http://bit.ly/TysonExposedAgain! For the second time in just over a year, a heartbreaking Compassion Over Killing (COK) investigation has exposed egregious abuse, including the painful effects of genetic manipulation, at Tyson Foods. Tyson, the nation’s largest poultry producer, has long touted its “Commitment to Animal Well-Being.” Yet behind the closed doors of a Virginia Tyson contract facility, with more than 225,000 chickens crowded inside filthy sheds, COK’s investigator documented birds run over and crushed to death by forklifts; live birds violently slammed or thrown; sick or injured birds brutally bludgeoned, and baby chicks impaled with a metal nail on the end of a pipe. Systemic suffering went beyond this egregious abuse: Trapped inside their own morbidly obese bodies resulting from Tyson’s genetic manipulation, these baby birds grow so unnaturally large, so quickly, that many can’t even walk as their fragile, underdeveloped legs collapse under the weight of their overgrown bodies. Genetic manipulation can also lead to other ailments, including heart and lung deformities. All of these birds are just babies -- Those who survive these nightmarish conditions will be shipped out to slaughter at just 6 weeks old. Although Tyson ended the barbaric practice of using “nose bones” after it was exposed by COK’s 2016 investigation, the poultry giant has yet to address the reason it implemented the practice in the first place: these birds are purposely bred for unnaturally fast growth, which causes immense suffering and early deaths. Tyson publicly strives to “shape the future of food,” but it remains firmly entrenched in a tradition of torture to churn out cheap, cruelly produced meat. It’s way past time for Tyson to distance itself from these atrocities once and for all. Take action TODAY to urge Tyson to put an end to the genetic manipulation of birds for rapid growth--and to become a real food industry leader by focusing more heavily on cruelty-free plant protein: http://bit.ly/TysonExposedAgain -- and share this link on social media to multiply your impact for birds!
