I’m excited to share that thanks to Greens Senator, Larissa Waters our voices will not be able to be ignored by the Minister when our 68,000 signatures are tabled in the Senate in the next few weeks.
It was great to see Senator Waters promoting our petition in the video of support she filmed at the Toondah Alliance’s very successful World Wetlands Day celebrations attended by hundreds of supporters in G.J. Walter Park on Sunday 4 February.
Speaking of the Toondah Alliance, the Minister made her first visit to meet with them in Cleveland on Friday. This included representatives from Redlands 2030, Stradbroke (Terangeri) Environmental and Cultural Protection Association Inc, ACF Community Bayside and the Australian Conservation Society, Birdlife Southern Queensland, Birdlife Australia, the Koala Action Group, the Australian Marine Conservation Society and the Queensland Wader Study Group.
Let’s hope she listens to Team Toondah and our 180,000 individual online actions to save Toondah, the 24,500 direct contacts to the Minister since November 2023, 27,000+ public submissions opposing the proposal and 2,000+ attendees annually to multiple local rallies and events. Of course the actual total would be much higher.
Still on the Alliance, thanks to the very talented and dedicated team who made World Wetlands Day so special and all who attended. The artistic reinterpretation of the East Asian - Australasian Flyway the team created with maps of countries represented on beautifully painted tablecloths were the perfect backdrop for participants to place their lovingly painted colourful curlew cut outs on.
You can view photos, videos and coverage of Toondah issues on Toondah Alliance social media sites such as Save Straddie, Redlands 2030, ACF Bayside, Save Our Bay, Toondah Friends, Birdlife Southern Queensland, the Koala Action Group and Queensland Wader Study Group.
You can also help save Toondah by downloading the curlew image on the Queensland Conservation Council’s Facebook and Instagram sites and post it directly on your social media channels and tag Minister Plibersek on Facebook - facebook.com/tanya.plibersek - and Instagram - instagram.com/tanyaplibersek /@TanyaPlibersek.
The Queensland Conservation Council also put the Toondah truth to counter Walker weasel words in this latest 7News story.
How can the clearing of 2.5 ha of mangroves, 37.8 ha of seagrass and 7.5 ha of unvegetated intertidal sandbanks and mudflats and removing approximately half a million cubic metres of seabed in the Ramsar and Moreton Bay Marine Park be a net environment benefit??
Finally there’s just over a month left for Minister Plibersek to announce her decision so please keep calling and emailing her. If you are busy, here are some great links to pre-written emails you can send in minutes or add your own comments:
- Stradbroke (Terangeri) Environmental and Cultural Protection Association Inc. (SECP)
- Birdlife Australia
- Australian Conservation Foundation
- Redlands 2030
It’s been over 10 years since this symbol of everything wrong with the way governments and developers work together against community and environment to threaten this home to so many rare and incredible species.
Thank you for standing strong and caring about planet not profit.
Together we can win this!
Yours in Toondah
Dylan
