As our "Summer is Amoeba Season Campaign" begins, we thank all our amazing supporters. We also thank CSTE for publishing the Position Statement on Public Health Reporting and Surveillance for Free-Living Amoebae Infections at http://c.ymcdn.com/sites/www.cste.org/resource/resmgr/2016PS/16_ID_12.pdf, which describes important changes to the NNDS System implemented in 2017.
Importantly, this document standardizes clear case definitions and reporting criteria for national use by state and local public health agencies, hospitals, clinicians, and laboratories. We look forward to continuing to support public health by empowering clinicians and you with awareness, prevention, diagnostic, and treatment information. We are especially grateful to the epidemiologists and scientists at the CDC Waterborne Disease Prevention Branch for their their ongoing efforts and dramatic expansion of amoebic meningoencephalitis resources at CDC.gov in the last several years. Our end goal remains. Make PAM rarer. Zero cases of infection, zero cases missed.
Thank you all again,
The families and survivors of those lost to PAM
