Australia is already on the frontlines of the climate crisis. Prolonged drought cripples farming communities. Flash flooding is creating chaos in cities. Catastrophic bushfires and severe cyclones threaten people’s homes. Heatwaves swept the nation over summer. 

Our Government should be helping to transform our economy and society in ways that work for people and our planet. They should be supporting workers and communities to move beyond fossil fuels to 100% clean energy for all, so that we can all have a safe future.

But instead, they are helping billionaire companies open the floodgates to new coal, oil and gas projects that put all of us in the firing line of more dangerous climate impacts, at the very time when the science demands rapid action to turn this crisis around.

But history reminds us that politicians rarely lead. They need people powered movements to push them.

Which is why, on September 20, three days before world leaders meet in New York for the UN Emergency Climate Summit, school students are inviting everyone to join us for our biggest ever global #ClimateStrike. 

By taking time off school and work together at a global scale, we’ll show our politicians that all of us want climate justice, because the alternative is unthinkable. We’ll strike in solidarity for everyone who’s already being hurt by the climate crisis and everyone who will be impacted if we don’t act now: workers, first nations people, young people, mining communities and more. 

We’ll strike to call for the fair and just transition of our economy and society away from damaging fossil fuels towards clean, safe renewable energy for all. 

Millions of people – young, old and in-between – will go on strike on September 20. Will you be there to stand with us shoulder to shoulder to call for a better future?

Everyone is invited. On March 15, 1.6 million of us went on strike around the world. On September 20, we’re going to take our movement to the next level. If you’re an adult, please take the day off and invite your friends, workmates and families to join us.
