Hi supporters,

We have some exciting news to share! The Town Council met last week and approved several major motions to improve Tiburon’s parks system. They include:

• Identify a site for a SUP/kayak launch
• Renovate the playground and lawn at Cypress Hollow Park
• Do a feasibility study for an inclusive playground at Zelinsky Park
• Ensure Tiburon’s playgrounds are inclusive and accessible
• Begin bike/walk safety improvements on the Old Rail Trail
• Create a map of the town’s parks

You can read more in this week's Ark newspaper!

Parents for Parks + Rec has been advocating for many of these improvements since the fall of 2023. It is gratifying to know our voices are being heard, and the town is finally committing to taking action!

We are very grateful to Council Members Holli Thier (Mayor), Jack Ryan, Isaac Nikfar, and Jon Welner for passing these motions. (Council Member Alice Fredericks was not at the meeting.) We also are grateful to the town staff and to the Parks, Open Space, and Trails (POST) Commission for all their work toward improving our parks system.

In addition to the items above, the Council will be discussing Blackie’s Pasture and Lineal Park during its meeting on Wednesday, May 21. The POST commission will give a presentation and share recommendations for park enhancements during the meeting.

In addition, POST will have a community engagement meeting to discuss Lineal Park at 5pm on Tuesday, May 20. Mark your calendars!

There is a great proposal from an impassioned group of Tiburon families to convert the former sewage ponds into a multi-generational space with a basketball court, sand volleyball court, and shaded seating area. We are super excited about this plan and fully support it. We hope you will, too!

The town is starting to plan the budget for the 25/26 fiscal year (the budget is typically adopted in June, and the new fiscal year starts July 1). Let’s keep the momentum going to ensure family-friendly park improvements are part of the new budget. We will send details soon about when to send emails to town leaders and what to say!

Thanks for your ongoing support to make Tiburon’s parks the best they can be… for everyone!

Sincerely,

Parents for Parks + Rec
