Clemency Is Now a Matter of Health & Justice

Dear Supporters,
Douglas is now recovering in prison under immense stress and physical strain, with limited access to specialized care since his stroke in January. This serious neurological event has turned an already unjust situation into a genuine medical emergency. Every additional day of incarceration risks permanent harm to his health.
Just days after his stroke, on January 30, 2026, the judge denied Douglas’s detailed Motion for Judicial Recusal — despite the sworn record showing clear concerns about impartiality, including:
• Refusal to review exculpatory evidence (like the 2018 co-defendant letter stating Douglas had no knowledge or involvement — the judge said on record, “I don’t need to see it”).
• Hostile statements at sentencing (accusing Douglas of “very bogus excuses” and perjury before the sentence was even complete).
• Inflated loss amounts and enhancements that nearly doubled the national average for similar non-violent cases, leading to the 174-month (14+ year) sentence.
• Visible restraints in front of the jury without justification, and restrictions on presenting a full defense.
The denial confirms what we’ve feared: the courts will not correct this miscarriage internally. Executive clemency — through commutation or pardon in Case #C315066 — is now the only realistic path to justice, safety, and reuniting Douglas with his family.
We are so grateful for your continued support. Recent signers like Roger Stone and others have helped keep this visible, and the petition is still at 129 signatures — let’s push hard toward 200! Petitions with stronger numbers are far more likely to get attention.
Please help us now by:
• Signing if you haven’t already (or re-sharing if you have).
• Posting about Douglas’s stroke and the need for immediate clemency on social media with #FreeDougVance.
• Writing or calling key decision-makers (President Trump for clemency review, Rep. Jim Jordan, Sen. Rand Paul) to highlight the medical urgency and due process failures.
• Sharing this petition widely — every voice counts in preventing irreversible harm.
This is no longer just about a wrongful conviction. It’s about protecting a man’s life and health when the system has failed him at every turn. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for standing with Douglas and our family during this critical time. Your compassion and action are making a real difference.
With hope and gratitude,
Heather Vance
