On March 30, 2026, at Trump's direction under the Executive Order 14276, "Restoring American Seafood Competitiveness," the Western Pacific Regional Fishery Management Council (Wespac) approved actions to move toward restoring commercial fishing in the Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument and Sanctuary. The Marianas Island and Rose Atoll National Marine Monuments are also under scrutiny in this directive.
Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument and Sanctuary is the largest contiguous fully protected conservation area under the U.S. flag, and one of the largest marine conservation areas in the world. It encompasses 582,578 square miles of the Pacific Ocean (1,508,870 square kilometers) - an area larger than all the country's national parks combined.
This illegal motion to fish the healthiest coral reef ecosystems in the world must be stopped. Please share the petition and support the impending lawsuit to block this violation of our marine national monuments and national marine sanctuary with Shark Stewards.
