Save Windermere is back with critical new findings yesterday in the Guardian. This time, rather than focusing on the volume of sewage dumping, we’ve examined the sheer number of days with illegal spilling. With analysis from Professor Peter Hammond of Windrush Against Sewage Pollution, we now know that there has been over 500 days with illegal discharges in Windermere, including Coniston water, between 2018 and 2023. Save Windermere played a key role in obtaining this data to expose the true scale of this issue.
But this is just the tip of the iceberg. We urge you to read our full blog to understand how we uncovered this information, what it means for the future, and how the government may soon make YOU pay for the water companies’ continued non-compliance.
We also highlight specific solutions to protect England’s largest and most iconic lake. How can we prevent this from happening again? What can you do to help? Head to our blog for all the details.
More to come from us very soon, so stay tuned!
Thank you all for your continued support and please contact us if you have any further ways you wish to help.
