2 years ago the IUVENTA was confiscated - Sea Rescue continues to be criminalized!
Aug 2, 2019 —
My name is Lea, I am a nurse and was part of the Medic team aboard the IUVENTA rescue boat several times. All in all, our crews have saved more than 14,000 lives at sea. Now we can not help anymore. Exactly two years ago, our ship was confiscated by Italian authorities. The allegation: Illegal weapons possession, cooperation with organized crime, aid to illegal immigration. Weapons? On board a rescue ship? It is absurd. Although there is no evidence to this day, the IUVENTA is still stuck in the harbor.
August 2nd is a special day for us. That's why today Hannes Seidel handed over the petition to me, in the future I will inform you about the case of iuventa10 and the topic "prosecution of helpers".
The 2nd of August 2017 was also a special day for Europe. For the first time a civilian lifeboat was confiscated. The captain Pia told me that they were shocked when they realized what was happening. But it did not surprise her. We did not know that we were under surveillance by undercover agents and our conversations were overheard. But it has been clear for months that we are at the center of a political hate campaign that is actually directed against refugees and migrants.
The fact that our ship was searched for evidence of cooperation with smugglers, Captain Pia was interrogated for hours and the ship was finally confiscated, has shown us how important our fight for solidarity in Europe is. We have to defend our values against the return of fascist policies.

We will not give up! There are investigations against a number of volunteers in Italy, they are targeting all of us. The team of iuventa10 just came together in Portugal. We looked back at the last months. It is unbelievable how colorful the solidarity of the civil society from Lisbon to Seville to Hamburg was: art auctions, football clubs, solo concerts, group hug events, demonstrations ... This petition has also given the crew courage for the upcoming lawsuit. Thanks a lot! We count on you in the future too!
