Petition updateSTOP THE FREE RANGE EGG FARCEYOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS

The recent environment agencies DRAFT permit consultation held at the Nancegollan Village Hall was very well attended, the lack of support for this INDUSTRIAL “NOT SO FREE RANGE” MEGA FARM was quite noticeable.

The “daft” permit has been based on EA calculations that will allow 112,000 hens to “range “on the 59 hectare site, this equates to 1898 hens per hectare!

They have calculated that our drinking water bore holes, the ground water nitrate levels and threats to the river Hayle will not cause any issues at all.

I have spent the last 20 months explaining to the EA this proposal breaks the rules for compliance within the Nitrate Vulnerable Zone.

Unfortunately the last 20 months has seen the EA working on this Permit application that appears to have been done in vane, had they bothered to read my submissions and listen to what I was telling them, they would have realised at the very start of this process that Defra only allow 320 hens per hectare if the ground is situated within a Nitre Vulnerable Zone.

I did point out to one member of the permit team that if they allow this to go ahead, the hens will produce nearly six times the permitted allowance of nitrogen, he did look quite concerned to say the least.

So, some contents of the “daft” permit are based on incorrect calculations that cannot be relied upon, bore holes, ground water and the river Hayle will suffer very real threat.

There is no way the Environment agency can allow a permit to be granted, end of.
