Update: So far the Virginia State Police has kept their communications in the clear but indicated on several occasions "Switch to Secure?"

It appears the necessary upgrades to enable encryption ability are in place, therefore at this point its a matter or policy decision, something that we still have the power to influence.

Additionally, there is clear indication that the option to encrypt communications is optional and not a mandatory requirement based on programming or system configuration. It's not a matter of we "have to", it's we "choose to".

Let's keep up the good fight, please share our petition with all your friends on social media. We have been able to convey numerous wrong way drivers, crashes, police chases and weather related road blockages since we began our petition campaign. Reading about a wrong way driver or police pursuit days later in the newspaper does absolutely nothing for your safety in real-time.
