To have any chance of continuing the campaign to Save Wimbledon Stadium, we need as many supporters as possible to email the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, Sajid Javid supporting our cause. To make it easier for you, as we are all busy people, below we have put together a thorough submission that you can simply 'copy & paste' then email as it is to the address at the end, or add your own comments to if you wish.... Email to: sajid.javid@communities.gsi.gov.uk & copy in also to: npcu@communities.gsi.gov.uk Subject: WImbledon Stadium Then COPY & PASTE the submission below: " Dear Secretary of State I write to place on record my objection to the decision taken by the planning committee of Merton Borough Council numbered 14/P4361. Yes this country needs new homes, but especially in London, it needs affordable homes. The new mayor of London was elected on a mandate of ensuring that all new applications had 50% affordable homes. The current application that he has just expressed a view to agree has a mere 9.6%. The local council has a policy of ensuring sporting intensification within it's boundaries, and yet with this application, two existing, commercially viable sports, that have been at the venue since 1928 and 1962 respectively will be evicted, along with their heritage. Ironically, this is the same sharp practice by a developer that was imposed upon the previous football club in 1991 that saw them evicted, and ultimately leave the borough for pastures new. Now as a supposed 'community club' that incidentally already has a home of its own, pure greed alone sees them wanting to inflict the same action that in the case of Oval Racing, will see the demise of the proud grass roots sport. As a former Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport you will be aware of Sport England's working ethos to protect all existing sporting grounds/stadiums and facilities. Despite this, neither the current leader of Merton Borough Council, nor any of the parties to the application, consulted with the two existing sporting tenants, with a view to at least consideration of relocation within the stated Section 106. I trust you will agree that in a year where once again Britain has been seen as a sporting powerhouse, Sport England's noble ideal of not only maintaining but investing in the facilities of grass root sport for future generations, is one that needs to be upheld. To this end, I urge you to intervene and hold a public inquiry to discuss transparently and democratically every aspect of the application currently under consideration. Yours sincerely " We need to do this urgently. Thank you everyone.
