First, I want to thank everyone who has signed and shared this petition. Your support has been incredible, and it’s clear that we are all fighting for something that truly matters to us.

Today we finally got a response from NYSC; another member and I spoke on the phone with a representative. While I appreciate the representative listening and acknowledging our concerns, I remain disappointed and frustrated. However, he did say that he would escalate our concerns and keep an open line of communication.

Here’s what we now know:

  1. This seems to be a final decision. NYSC is cutting Body Combat and other beloved classes across all locations based on attendance data that they have collected from the app.
  2. NYSC plans to replace our current classes with a standardized, rotating schedule where specific types of workouts (strength, cardio, recovery) are assigned to set days across all locations, rather than considering which classes are in highest demand at each location.
  3. This isn’t just about Les Mills anymore. Originally, we thought this was about losing Les Mills Body Combat. But now we know that NYSC is cutting a wide range of non-Les Mills classes, too.

Here’s what we asked them to consider:

  1. We asked if they would be open to surveying individual clubs about what their members actually want rather than applying a one-size-fits-all schedule across all clubs.
  2. We also asked if a compromise is possible: we suggested that we could at least keep Body Combat and other classes at their most popular locations, whatever that is determined to be.
  3. We asked that they reconsider making decisions based on app data; we know that the app is glitchy, has a difficult user experience, and that many members don’t book their classes through the app. Making blanket decisions based on app data doesn’t reflect the reality of our experience across NYSC locations.
  4. We also asked that NYSC provide us with clearer communication about changes going forward. Their email announcement this week was extremely vague and didn’t mention the specifics of classes being removed, and as paying members, we deserve to know these changes so we can make informed decisions about whether or not we want to continue our memberships.

If you haven’t already, please share this petition with fellow NYSC members and share your thoughts with your local club. The more members who speak up, the clearer it will be that these classes matter to us.
