Dear signers,

We have crossed 12,000 signatures - thank you for signing the petition and adding your voice to the campaign. I am grateful for the opportunity to share my experiences and hopefully change the reality for many other students in my place. I am disappointed with NSW Education Minister Sarah Mitchell’s response to our campaign in the article attached below.

Right now, can you tweet at Sarah Mitchell and ask her to support our campaign?

The Minister says “While I do not control the uniform policies of non-government schools, I encourage students at non-government schools to have a discussion with their school about their uniform policy if they are advocating for change.”

Unfortunately, kids rarely have the power to negotiate with their teachers and other adults, to create tangible change. I know because I was once in that position. It is the responsibility of adults around them to help foster an inclusive environment that values their identity.

Can you please tweet at Sarah Mitchell and ask her to support our campaign?

Currently, the Anti-Discrimination Act is very vague around uniforms and grooming codes for students from culturally diverse backgrounds. We need an explicit amendment to the Anti-Discrimination Act that protects culturally diverse students from uniform policies that hinder their culture and identity.
