BANNING THE HUMANOID ROBOT IS A SHOW OF GOOD WILL

Leaders in the industry of advanced machines have called for 'AI regulation' for years. As the technology becomes more impressive, their concerns become more vocal. Nevertheless, despite the appearance of good will, the general public struggles to trust company leaders so eager to invite the government into their operations. On the one hand, many of us see the need to be judicious in how these tools are built. They are extraordinary - and their technical capacity for destruction is unprecedented. On the other hand, history is a story of groups of people vying for power at the expense of others - and we have every reason to suspect that the companies moving to install boundaries on their freedom will not suffer financially for it. Furthermore, who knows what institutions they might build to insulate themselves from external constraints - or elevate themselves out of market competition entirely.

These pernicious, inevitable-seeming mergings of business and government, combined with the unbelievable ambiguity and breadth of our technological innovation, create a near dream-like level of chaos for the average person.

And so as we approach this nebulousness, we perhaps should put forward a list of demands. And this list of demands will identify the varied technologies, policies, and outcomes we desire (and don't).

Of course, I submit that the Humanoid Robot - a machine designed to make the human economically obsolete - should be at the top of this list and first to be considered for banning.

In this way, the banning of the Humanoid Robot could be a cornerstone of a shared effort by the people to protect their / our future - and a common point of agreement for anyone invested in the future of humankind.
