Endangered Bodies & Apple in conversation but more work to be done.
Feb 17, 2017 — On Feb 5th an Endangered Bodies representative spoke with Tom Neumayr, an Apple representative. He communicated that Apple agrees the cosmetic surgery apps should not be there and they have removed them. They have also agreed to be more vigilant with the screening process, which is currently monitored by a team in multiple languages. However, in spite of this conversation, at the time of writing this update we have discovered hundreds of new cosmetic surgery apps for kids are available on their app store, as indicated by the image attached to this update. Although we greatly appreciate the communication with Apple, the reappearance of hundreds of these 'games' reaffirms the need for a clear-cut policy on these apps.
To date we have yet to receive communication from Google or Amazon but we would welcome the opportunity to discuss this with them and to support them implementing an effective policy to protect its young users, understanding that these apps are a form of violence to children.
