At the end of 2018, we declared victory on our #SurgeryIsNotAGame campaign on the basis that cosmetic surgery games for children were no longer available through the Apple app store. Now it appears as if Amazon has taken action, too!

After several months of monitoring the Amazon app store, and media reports that Amazon no longer offered cosmetic surgery games for kids, we feel confident that Amazon has removed these “games”! We are not aware of any official change in Amazon’s policy and have not received any communication from Amazon to confirm that this action is permanent, but the removal and sustained absence of these “games” is a huge step in the right direction.

Although our campaign has come to an end, we are aware that cosmetic surgery games are still available through the Google Play app store as well as through a number of online gaming sites. We hope that Google will take appropriate action, and follow the responsible lead of Apple and Amazon. In the meantime, we encourage parents to continue to monitor the games their children have access to and be vigilant about the potential danger of cosmetic surgery games that are still available online.

Thanks again to everyone who signed the petition and supported our advocacy efforts to protect children from games that trivialise, glamorize, and normalize cosmetic surgery. Your voices made this happen!

With much gratitude from the international Endangered Bodies team in Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Germany, Ireland, New Zealand, the United States and the United Kingdom
