We are closing in on 2500 signatures, showing how important this issue is to Australian consumers. However we need many more signatures to show the politicians how much this matters to all Australians. Please share to all your networks and encourage them to sign. Minister McCormack needs to be told loudly and clearly that all Australian consumers needs stronger rights that are easily enforced and don't cause them financial, emotional and physical loss. We shoudn't be forced to court and be financially worse off because we buy a lemon product, no matter what that product is. That is the current scenario because the consumer guarantees in the Australian Consumer Law are not enforced properly by any of the regulators. Teg Sethi spent his own money to make the video 'I made a mistake I bought a Jeep', which had over 2.5 million views in Australia. He ultimately got a refund but why should he have had to spend money and go public to do so, when his car was clearly defective with major failures. It also took a considerable amount of time before he got his resolution. The system needs to be much easier and the proprosed amendments will make it so much better. However Minister McCormack is claiming they are not needed. Why? Because he is also the Minister for Small Business and appears to want to protect them rather than consumers. Confident consumers spend more money. The strengthened Australian Consumer Law will give consumers far more confidence in their purchases, especially larger consumer goods. Which can only benefit all Australians through a properly functioning economy.
