Borobudur temple in Indonesia is one of the World Cultural Heritage Sites selected by the Unesco. This makes Borobudur as a cultural entity belongs to and at the same time preserved by humankind throughout the world. For that reason, it becomes integral that the right to learn by visiting the site belongs to all people of the world.

Indonesia Government plans to charge internatonal visitors who want to climb the temple with USD 100 per person and domestic visitors with approximately USD 52.5 per person. This is overwhelmingly expensive, and limits to only rich people be able to see closely the world cultural heritage.

The Coordinator Minister for Marine and Investment Affair Mr Luhut Binsar Panjaitan told the press that the idea of the plan is to limit the per day visitors by 1,200 people.

That particular reasoning is no doubt irrational, as quota system by prior reservation as what applied by all transportation and hotel businesses, can easily be applied to manage the daily visits to Borobudur. Once the seats or the hotel room are all fully booked, the management simply close the reservation process. So does with the Borobudur's management may apply.

Because of that, we urge Indonesia Government, specifically the Coordinator Minister of Marine and Investment Affair Mr. Luhut Binsar Panjaitan, the Minister of Education and Research Mr. Nadiem Makarim, and the President of the Republic of Indonesia Mr. Joko Widodo, to cancel applying an expensive charge for visitors to climb the Borobudur temple, and replaces it by applying an online quota-based reservation system with normal and reasonable ticket prices. As the right to visit the world cultural heritage is for all people and not only for the rich.
