Bangalore Mirror reports that the Suburban Rail Project plans to fell 35,527 trees.  Bengaluru cannot afford this loss.

At a time when the city is reeling from its worst Heat Wave and Water Crisis, the Govt is proving to be most insensitive in addressing the real needs of the city.  Every single tree needs to be saved.  The Government needs to get this - The ecology of Bengaluru is completely wrecked!  It cannot take any more damage.  It will become unliveable.

Just planting saplings will not replace the loss of full grown trees, they take decades if not centuries to grow to this level.

A BETTER WAY:

The Suburban Rail could be implemented on existing infrastructure itself, and wont require the felling of any trees at all.  Please see the recommendations in this petition:  https://change.org/BengaluruSuburbanNow

It is high time that the State Government introspects on its ill advised development model.  It is crucial that the State and Central Governments look at viable alternatives such as Suburban Rail on existing railway lines by using technological interventions such as automatic signalling and crossover stations / sections, and double decker lines.

The greatest benefit will be that the city can retain some of its last remaining greenery, the cost of the project will be reduced significantly, and the time for execution will also be reduced.  The project itself can be speeded up, very essential for such an important project that can reduce the road congestion of our city.

We hope that wiser heads will prevail!

We call upon Shri Bhupender Yadav - Union Environment minister, and Shri Eshwar Khandre - Karnataka Environment Minister to impress on Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw - Railway Minister, to consider the options listed in petition:  https://change.org/BengaluruSuburbanNow

We call on all our ministers and the management of Rail Infrastructure Development Company (Karnataka) Limited (K-RIDE), to fulfil their constitutional duty to save our environment, and stop the massacre of these trees!

We request all citizens to forward this to the Environment Ministers, Chief Minister of Karnataka, Railway Minister and the Management of K-RIDE.  Please do this for our beloved Bengaluru!
