Petition updateDecrease the risk of spread of COVID-19 at Stellenbosch University

Reaction from the university management

Via various communications, including answers to the questions following the recent staff assembly, it is clear that the university management took some consideration of the requests made in the petition and that the petition did have some impact on the recent decisions by the university management. However, the requests in the petition were not fully adopted. For instance, it seems that there will indeed arise scenarios where a lecturer or, particularly, a student will feel obliged to engage in a physical face-to-face teaching and learning activity in the first semester of 2021. If you are against this, and have not signed the petition yet, please do so. It should be noted that the lecturers seem to have a bit more flexibility: if they can demonstrate that all academic goals can be achieved with minimum or no face-to-face sessions, then this will be permitted. The specifics of how each module is offered has been left, it seems, up to the discretion of faculties and departments. A more definite update will be posted once more information becomes available.
