Many thanks to all of you who have signed the petition to FREE DR. ALIE KABBA, a political prisoner of the Government of Sierra Leone
As of this evening in Freetown, Dr. Kabba has been formally arrested and refused bail. Tomorrow is a holiday in Freetown, Friday is Christmas and the weekend is pretty much a done deal for Alie to be in jail until next week.
We all know that this is not about Alie alone, but about the suffering people of Sierra Leone and a government that has clamped down on dissent and free speech. Last week two U.S. citizens of Sierra Leonean descent were arbitrarily arrested upon arrival at Lungi Airport in Freetown for talking about corruption in Sierra Leone.
So this petition is not just to free Dr. Kabba but to raise global awareness on the decaying political climate in Sierra Leone. It is important to note that Sierra Leone's 10-year bloody civil war was brought to an end through a collaborative African and America leadership, largely financed by American taxpayers. The nascent democracy that followed is being undermined by a dictator who is bent on reversing all the hard-won democratic gains our people have made. The conscience of the world should unite against this and compel President Koroma and his APC government to uphold the rule of law and freedom of speech.
Thank you kindly for your support.
