We have some exciting news to share! The NextGen Cup Consortium, an initiative announced as a result of the Better Cup Campaign, recently announced 12 winning ideas (see below).
These innovative cup models could be game changers in ensuring big food corporations distribute cups that are fully recyclable and compostable everywhere. This directly addresses the current recyclability issues of fast food chains.
Since Starbucks has announced their investment in the NextGen Cup Consortium, other corporations have joined the initiative. Wendy's and McDonald's are now also participating as well. We are excited to see big players in the fast food industry invest in environmentally-friendly technologies!
You were all part of making this possible! Together we built the Better Cup movement - which is having a significant impact! It’s an important step in the right direction.
When looking over the 12 winning ideas for environmentally-friendly cups that will receive funding, we were wondering when one of these models would be distributed on a larger scale?
In our opinion, that’s what’s missing from the announcement: a clear timeline as to when one of these innovative solutions will actually hit stores.
So, we thought we would ask Starbucks to let us know when we can expect them to USE a Better Cup?
You can join us in asking them today. You can email them here with the following message:
“Congratulations on founding the NextGen Cup Challenge! We are encouraged to see Starbucks play an important role in promoting a more sustainable future. Now that the winners of the top cup ideas has been announced; we were wondering when we should expect your coffee chain to use a better cup that is recyclable AND compostable cup? We look forward to hearing back from you.”
You can also share this message on twitter, or leave your comments for them below; we’ll be happy to compile them and send them to Starbucks on your behalf.
For our planet,
Mya, Eve & Ben.
