Thank you for signing the petition to support Katy ISD's LGBTQ+ students, parents, families, & staff, and asking our school board to vote "no" on the SB 12 resolution.
The reality is the resolution is likely to pass- possibly even with a 7-0 vote. Because SB 12 is state law, and Katy ISD, as a public school district, is obligated to implement and follow state law- even terrible ones. The resolution is on the "consent agenda," which means to even have any further discussion or dialogue on the item, a trustee has to request to pull it from the consent agenda, and vote on the item separately.
But this petition demonstrates there are people in our community who continue to stand with and support LGBTQ+ students, families, & staff, and expect our school board majority to find ways to do the same.
Please continue to share the petition through this afternoon.
Other ways to help:
Sign up to speak at the board meeting tonight before 2pm today.
Email publicspeakers@katyisd.org (if you already emailed publicrecords@katyisd.org, I am told that should be fine, too). and let them know you want to speak on Agenda Item 9.1: Consider SB 12 Resolution. Then make sure you arrive to the Educational Support Complex lobby and sign in before 4:45pm. The address is 6301 South Stadium Lane.
If you can't speak, but want to attend the meeting to show support for the speakers, and our LGBTQ+ students and teachers, you're welcome to come watch in person.
And finally, if you can't do either, but want to make your concerns heard, you can email the Katy ISD trustees.
