Hello everyone,

Thank you all so much for signing this petition and getting it to over 650 signatures. The response from everyone has been incredible to see, especially after hearing dismissals on my concerns about this textbook for months.

I sent a follow-up email informing the Board of Education and the Columbia High School administration of the 650+ people who want this textbook removed from the classroom. I asked for an update on where the district stands and their next steps.

After the amazing turnout, the South Orange Maplewood School District Superintendent, Dr. Taylor, emailed me that the district's Curriculum and Instruction Director will create recommendations about the textbook and share them with the Board of Education's Curriculum and Instruction Committee. He expects the district to decide what to do and update the townships in July—way after summer work is announced.

Though I have inquired, the district has not yet addressed what will happen to students who are taking this class next year and if materials from this textbook will be used for summer work.
