South Africa endorses and encourages the trade in rhino horn and lion bone.
The government has yet to make a statement with regard to the current #COVID_19 epidemic. A corona virus that has parts of China and the entire country of Italy in total shutdown. A virus that scientists believe was passed from wild animal parts or wild animals used for human consumption to humans.
South Africa is clearly ill equipped to control the illegal trade in both rhino and lion bone. There have been countless interceptions at customs at various borders of Asian countries.
281KG of lion bones was opened last week in Cambodia after being shipped from South Africa.
There are about 15000 lions in captivity waiting to be killed for their bones which will be used for wine in Asia.
The captive needs lion industry is not regulated. This has led to wide spread animal welfare issues and cruelty towards animals.
3.6 million people have asked Mr Creecy to close this industry down.
