Thank you to everyone who has signed the petition and more importantly, shared it on your social media as well as discussed it - either online or in-person with people you know and/or care about this cause.
Singapore Legal Advice picked up on this petition and shared the factors of offering these 7 Singaporean men bail on their Instagram. However, I've tried to start a conversation with them with regards to further understand how these men have been offered bail when they've pleaded guilty to those horrific offenses made AND was previously denied bail. I think we all understand what bail means, but what we do not understand is WHY are these rapists offered bail when they should consider the victims' and public's safety before offering these monsters a way out before their court hearing.
The crimes they did were horrifying and they did them to their own wives who they vowed to love and protect. These men are adults. Sexual crimes have been on the rise in Singapore, so laws need to be continuously reformed to be harsher on these crimes especially as they ruin victims' lives forever. The criminal justice system MUST show that they stand with victims and the public first. They must show that they are here to protect us all the way.
What needs to happen next is to get this petition to be considered for a debate in Parliament and to do so, shoot an email to your area's MP and they will consider this for a debate. There is a Public Petition Committee in the Parliament, therefore to get their attention we'll need to flood their inboxes. Tell them about this petition, tell them you want this petition to be considered for debate, tell them you and all these 28,000 people want a better change towards sexual crimes that have been on the rise. Deterrence is important.
