Massacres and Persecution in Alevi Settlements Continue to Intensify!
The HTS (Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham) regime, which seized power in Syria on December 8, poses a grave threat to minorities in the country.
According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, 14 people were massacred in Tartus and Latakia on December 27-28, bringing the total number of extrajudicial executions to 117.
Killings, oppression, and extrajudicial executions continue across multiple settlements. On January 25, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported that 22 civilians were killed in Alevi villages in and around Homs.
The most vulnerable group, the Alevites —whom Salafi jihadists consider apostates from Islam deserving of death— are facing extreme oppression and persecution, amounting to physical annihilation, despite having surrendered their weapons. The burden of the former regime is being unjustly placed upon them
Our Demands:
The United Nations and the international community must immediately send a permanent observer mission to investigate human rights violations in Syria on the ground.
Humanitarian aid corridors must be urgently established in necessary regions for Alevis and other minorities, ensuring safe passage for those in need of medical treatment.
The United Nations must deploy a peacekeeping force to the region to guarantee the safety of lives and property.
In 2014, ISIS raided Yazidi villages in Iraq, abducting over 6,000 women and children, selling them into slavery. In 1995, more than 8,000 people were massacred in Srebrenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The United Nations and its member states must act immediately to prevent similar crimes against humanity and massacres.
