Dear Change supporters, As you may already know from our latest update, on Nov. 5, Kadri Gürsel, Murat Sabuncu and seven of their colleagues were arrested and placed in the Silivri Prison, outside Istanbul. Until today, they remain behind bars in an ongoing legal limbo. At least 140 journalists are in prison in Turkey today, many of them simply for doing their job. But IPI will not give up until all journalists imprisoned for their work in Turkey are free. IPI and its members are still keeping up the fight: - Coordinating letters and personal meetings: our members and representatives in Europe are urging EU leaders and the Council of Europe to pressure Turkey into releasing jailed journalists. - IPI members from around the world are sending recorded video messages of support to Kadri Gürsel and other journalists imprisoned in Turkey . - Collecting letters of support for Cumhuriyet from every corner of the IPI global network. These letters have been widely circulated on social media channels and carried by news outlets in Turkey. - This petition has been sent to the Turkish authorities and Ministry of Justice by our National Committee in Turkey with more than 3,300 signatures. - On Dec. 10, to commemorate International Human Rights Day, IPI Director of Advocacy and Communications Steven M. Ellis joined members of our Turkey National Committee in Silivri to protest against the abuse of journalists in Turkey. See the full story here: http://bit.ly/2hTPmJX As part of IPI’s campaign to #FreeTurkeyJournalists ,  journalists and editors from around the world have sent their messages of support. We have complied some of these message in this short video. It is proof of how strongly united the global journalistic community is. We thank you everyone who has sent their messages and letters to the journalists detained in Turkey. If you would like to contribute to IPI for it's press freedom work and for the campaign #freeturkesjournalists, please consider donating to the IPI Press Freedom Fund. http://ipi.media/support-us/ Once again, on behalf of the IPI team, thank you for your support.
