Criminal defense attorney, John Oakes, is now representing Jason Brown. Oakes' only statement to the press so far has been to assert that his client has "mental health issues." As a registered nurse, I have seen how debilitating mental illness can be, but that does not mean it is an automatic get out of jail free card. There is a big difference between the mentally ill who are unable to discern right from wrong and those who are. Jason Brown, after being informed by the motel manager that the police had been called, attempted to flee. Does that sound like an innocent person to you? No, it sounds like a man who knew what he did was wrong but didn't want to be punished for it. As you can see, I am very passionate about this issue!
